this section is for people with not so much talent, therefore the award is based off of there hard work and EFFORT
just one more thing, sean, thats really offensive, why do you give people with no talent awards…it means nothing, no one deserves to be “you’ve got no skill but you have heart…”. Thats the biggest crap ever, if someone is bad at a sport for example, i would just go “your crap, go practise”. meh…
If you said hard work and effort in large caps Sean, how does add up with “no talent”? Ive been to the effort section and many of the designers of those sites are pretty darn good if I do say so myself.
There are certain facts in life, and not having as much talent as somone else is one of them, for instance, there may be a football player that runs the 40 yard dash in 4.0 seconds, but doesnt have the heart to use it to his advantcage, he may play on the team, but he sits on the bench, the other guy(the one with not as much talent) runs the 40 yard dash in 5.5 seconds, he doesnt sit on the bench, he actually starts and is leading the team in yards and touchdowns, not because he is the fastest, but because he has the drive and motivation to become faster:)
but, may i ask how do you know if someone puts effor into their website?
If the design is solid and all the lines are straight and the font is not blurry, that tells me they have put alot of time into the small details:) To be honest, i dont know anything, i just enjoy giving someone a simple award for there hard work, if it makes them happy, then my work is done!!
Most of those award sites are wack… and whoever said that the Golden Web Award was a real good one needs to go shoot themselves. That’s absolutely the worst one you can possibly get.
Melf’s links are not all web-award sites. Since we are discussing here web-award sites, there is a difference between them and shouts. I dont know where he got those links from, he might taken them from my sticky such as dik or ausinfront. Ausinfront is not a web-award site. Its an australian design portal and they just link your site there if they think your website is creative much like dik’s newsfeed.
The same goes for How and Print’s annual awards.
These are not given out every other day, which also makes them special and while these sites cover design in general, they do cover web/interactive at least once a year with special issues (and awards).
The PR of “winning” an award from Comm Arts is better than anything else, if you are trying to impress clients. Most clients still doesn’t know (or care) about the web only awards.
That big list melf gave us was good and some of them aren’t the most respected and biggest. I just don’t see people talking about bb awards and seraph awards all the time. On such a big forum like kF and ultrashock, most people don’t usually say “yay! I got a seraph award today” - even though I’d be happy with one award, getting one of the top 5 awards I listed is greater than anything :). But what the hell do I know, I never got one.
But I forgot one thing and thank you for reminding me. Macromedia is definetly definetly definetly one of the top ones of course .
One of the biggest problems w/ the design mag awards is they cost, and they cost a lot to enter your stuff… while the prize is great… it’s really tough to get the award too. Sadly too… this last HOW annual was pretty lame IMO, I dunno who decides this stuff.
But the reason why they charge is beacuse the competitions are judged by professionals, who have dedicated their lives to understanding color theory, traditional and interactive media design and have proven success records using such knowledge.
It seems lately that sites featured on the aboved mentioned award sites are handing out awards more by popularity than by design.
I wish i could afford to enter the HOW annual…but i also wish I had time to post in a million forums to get people to “bump” my sites up to the top of an extremely long list.
