Trojan maybe?

Hey guys.
I’m sure this exact question has been asked to death and answered a million times but I just don’t know what to search for. So ever since last night my computer has been lagging like crazy, firefox takes almost a minute to open and it goes so slow after it finally opens. Not good. Then a few minutes ago this blue screen pops up with some random white text, didn’t have time to read it. Then the computer restarts itself.

So anyone familiar with this problem and have a good link to a solution?

Thanks

It could be a trojan, but I am sure you have probably run adaware and spybot

It could also be an overheating issue, or you could have one of those viruses that cause XP to shut down automatically.

What steps have you taken so far with regards to this problem?

All I’ve done so far is ran AVG and Spybot. Neither of them came up with anything that helped the problem.

I doubt it’s overheating as well, the computer isn’t hot at all. It’s a laptop, so I think I’d be able to tell, but I may be off base there.

Could this be one of those worms you always hear about or…? I’m no good at this kind of thing. :stuck_out_tongue:

When you shut down your computer, leave it alone for about 15 minutes, and start it back up, does everything work swiftly? Also, you may want to give XP SP2 a shot. It’s pretty good at fixing some performance issues

Check your msconfig for anything suspicous, also, boot into safe mode with networking and try FF.

Most BSOD in winxp are caused by faulty hardware did you install anything new recently?? if not try booting into safemode and try restoring your pc (if you use system restore I know i dont ) to an earlier date and see if that works

in the task manager under processes, check if there is lsas.exe (not lsass.exe). also, is your cpu usage always at 100%?

hopey ou get it fixed

I agree with body visual. If any processes look suspicious, then run a computer-wide search on the name of it.

That’s how i fix many of my problems.

what did you do last night? install anything? go to any site that had a lot of pop-ups or seemed to take forever to load? download anything?

your activities last night might help shed some light on this.

Hey everyone, sorry for the delayed response. I think kirupa had it dead on with the overheating thing. I left it off overnight a couple nights ago and it’s been fine since.
Thanks for all the replies guys

I updated Windows, and it royally screwed my computer up big time. My video card screwed up and would only display 4 bit color. It was ugly.

you gotta update your drivers
