Trying to reinstall my wireless card

i had a friend format my laptop yesterday, but now i can’t get the comp to detect my wireless card. the first time i put it in it said “found new hardware” and took me thru an instalation process, but i screwed up and had to cancel it. is there anyway to tell windows to forget that first impresion so i can try that again? any suggestions?
