It would have to be pretty bad to wipe out everyone…
No he has his own :flower:
Aw nuts, I thought I was about to reveal the secret of secretinish
 He’s a good guy; just a little too serious at times
Well I am back, I was sick for few days.
anyway I want to join this little debate.
I believe there are alien civilzations out there but I don’t think there advance.
I think they are just creatures, think about it there are about billions of galaxies and in each galaxies there are like billions of planets so there must be atleast one planet with life or even more.
But I do believe id the aliens get too advnaced well they will destroy themselves like we are going to do soon.
I watch alot of discover channel.
How do our opinions prove that you yourself can hold an intellegent conversation?
^who me?
She stated that his boyfriend told her that she could not carry on an intelligent conversation because she was addicted to Family Guy, and cited this thread as proof that this was false. How does that work?
oh ok lol.
Subject matter, not opinions. And it was said in jest;)
I love my Brand New Dell computer!!! Delivered today!:shifty:
That must suck…
[whisper]In case you don’t know… this is my new computer… it’s a Mac :P[/whisper]
What do you mean? It is wonderful!!:snug:
You have piqued my curiosity; why do you love Apple so much?
Your name isn’t Bill is it
Nah… didn’t mean to start anything.
lol… yeah lets not go there. There are lots of threads around here about MAC vs Windows.
I doubt that the theory that all advanced races must detroy themselves can truely be applied. One cannot say just because one has seen a single white bird, that all birds are white. It’s possible that self destruction is a trait shared by all intelligent life, but the very fact that we haven’t yet destroyed ourselves proves that such a proposition is not a sure thing. The Discovery channel and it’s associated programs actually give us a much higher chance of being destroyed by outside influences like a “planet killer” meteor, than by our own internal struggles. As for a meteor destroying us. At this point, we are very likely to get off this planet and start spreading through the Universe before that occures.
The real problem with aliens is that life itself is prolific. So prolific in fact that it’s estimated that once we reach interstellar travel (given sleeper ships a possibility that is not that far fetched even today) it will only take us a matter of several centuries to populate all the inhabitable worlds in our Galaxy. If we assume that all life has the same drive to procreate and spread out, if there were intelligent star travelers out there, it is likely that we would have already encountered them.
I realise that my views here are contradictory. I do believe that there is intelligent life out there and I do not believe that we have encountered them. Where does that leave me? Well… I’m left in what I feel is an obvious status. Either they are visiting and don’t want us to know, or they are not visiting, or they don’t exist. I don’t feel at this time that we can prove any of these to be true. We simply must wait until we encounter them, they chose to show themselves, or we find everything in the Universe and find that no other intelligence exists. No matter which of the three you may prescribe to, it’s going to be a long long long time before it happens… in terms of one human life anyway.
I think there must be intelligent life somewhere else in the universe, and they could be more or less tehnologically advanced than us (or a mix).
I just think we havn’t encountered them yet.
sorry my time table is off. The estimate for us populating the galaxy was 100,000 years, not 200.
big difference there… but my thoughts are still stable on the matter.
I wonder if everyone realizes that a stealth bomber is a UFO just as much as an alien aircraft. Think about it… it’s silent from radars, half impossible to see when they’re in the air, and fly.
They can’t be identified except by the air force base that sent it out. Even the base doesn’t know where it is though
Yep.
but they ARE identified.
I agree though. As well, we’ve created a saucer that will fly. Though it’s impractical to make at this time.
