I am thiking and designing logo’s for my Website VISUALAMP.com and i was wondering is illustrator better than photoshop for logo’s because of the vector art aspect? because i find it hard to use illustrator’s pen tool and photoshop’s one i cant stand them . I cant seem to trace images the edges come out all jagged and not how i wanted them to look at all. IS their anything that could help me on how the pen tool works or and ideas for my logo and or which program is the best :).
I know this post is messy and prob bad grammar i am very sorry :thumb:
there have been MANY threads recently regarding logos, the use of the pen tool and so on
basically, the general feeling is that apart from knowing how the pen actually works (technically, i.e click, drag, edit curve etc) you really need to play around with it to get good results and learn how to use it… it’s awkward for most people at first
illy would definitely be the way to go for a logo unless it relied heavily on an image… it’s just so much easier to scale, colour, do all those things you want to for a logo… and i think that all the top companies would have their logos in vector form
one of my friends uses the pen tool by zooming in heaps and making lots of little points instead of curving his lines, which kinda works, but i don’t recommend it. Other than that, i guess it’s just practice - maybe you should find a few simple logo’s off the net or wherever, and practice drawing them yourself with illy (you could just trace over the image)
gah! NEVER zoom right in and make lots of small points! that’s the worst thing you can do! you’ll notice sooo many more errors when you blow it up if you do that the idea is to make as few points as possible.
