ive found no satisfactory soluion to my dilemma of what size my next site should be… so lets see what you all favour
750 pixel width max.
TD
still making it fit on 800x600
Well I make sites not wider than 700-800px so it fits into the 800x600 screen but actually I think pages look much nicer in 1024 resolution if they’re 700-800 wide
depends on the aim of the site I design.
nearly one third of the people still use 800x600, on the other hand I guess most 90% of the visitors of a “normal” site will use higer resolutions
A buisness site focused on usability would probably better be done in 800x600
this is true…
I keep my sites at a width of 756 pix, other than that I design around the 768 pix height. This way my sites look “right” at 1024x768 and they still fit the width for 800x600 so there is no side scrolling. Just my technique, but I like 1024x768 websites better.
I design at 800X600
A lot of people still use it. Especially the computer illiterate potential client that is on my site thinking of hiring me.
we have way too many of these threads :sigh:
Buts its just so much fun to answer questions 200 times :thumb: :beam:
 true
ok ok, i design for 1024x768 unless the client requires otherwise…
but i’m not voting on the poll!!!
oops, sorry for the spam thread, i searched and cudnt find what i wanted
it’s ok, i do think there are bigger threads with a lot more info for you though laying around the forums.
let me try and find some to give you some more insight.
i design on 1280 x 1024 for 800 x 600 screens or I just make my sites auto size themselves so they look correct on each resoltion BUT 640 x 480…I hate that res.
800x600! I usually make sure that tables’ widths are no larger than 750-ish pixels.

well, its pretty much even so far. that surprises me, thought there wud be more 800x600
but thats good cos id like to do 1024x768…
i have a lot of photographs of mm work, detailed drawings etc… so maybe i should go bigger resolution
800x600 :thumb:
I wish the day would come where I can design for a base of 1024x768. But I normally go 800x600 as a base.
i have both versions of my site, weird thats the first and only vote for that option, my sites fit both resolution but more then 1024 X 768, sometimes it does’nt, like have a look at www.alexmcmillan.co.uk, i have to make some repairs for 800 X 600 one, earlier i used a resolution script to check the resolution of the screen and then redirected it to the optimum screen size, reason i do that is coz my 70% of clients are from uk, in india we have 800 X 600 resolutions as the default, its changing now as copanies have stop making 15" screens, with 17" they have to change the screen resolution too…
