hey you gonna make a version that looks brand new? **

I could render it with the original shiny plasticy material, but I might leave that until it’s finished.

yeah like then copy it so it looks like they are in the factory!

Sweet.

I found a brillant tutorial on UV mapping, quite possible the easiest to understand tut I have ever read. It is geared towards low-poly modelling, but the concepts still apply. (I don’t have any excuse for bad mapping now  ).

This is where I got it from for all you 3D buffs:

(it has a whole host of tuts, I got a downloaded PDF from the texture mapping post)

sweet i can read up on boolean modeling! thanks

I want to make it look photo-realisitic, but not real… if that makes sense.

“Hyper-real.”

Nice job by the way.:thumb:

Awesome link ironikart !! Some nice tips/ tutorials there. :beam:

Omg… It is really awesome!!! Looks like one of the bots from UT2k3… Go apply for a job with Digital Extremes or something…Coz you’re really good ! :thumb: Btw…Everybody 's talking about how good your first bot was…where is it?

page 5 on this thread is a example and link to the other robot that ironikart created.

Umm…isn’t this page 5? And I don’t find no link… :frowning:

K, now I found it :beam: It’s awesome… He really has talent… Cya

Not sure about the lower legs that I’ve modelled, but here’s the updated render anyway. I might think about changing them later, but I’m trying to model the hands at the moment… tell me what you think, perhaps they only look funny to me?

It seems the details are the things that take forever. I’ve gone through several different head versions… finally I’ve got a sketch I’m happy with so I’ll start modelling it after the hands.

that looks crazy good dude
the logs are kinda really small though.
thats all that looks wrong to me
awesome job

looking great  I dont mind the legs, you can kinda go for that superhero body frame, body and chest huge and legs normal. :smirk:

Your feet might what is making it looked small. Even though they looked good, maybe his feet can be chunkier.

I broadened the feet and put a bit of an ankle guard in to beef it up a bit. I modelled some quick hands so I could test out some postures using character studio. It seemed to rig up pretty well in my tests so posing it after it’s complete shouldn’t be a huge job.

I starting to wonder how the head will go onto this model, I have a feeling it’ll look slightly out of place. The head is pretty much the most important part of a character model so I envision many hours spent on getting it to look convincing. And then there is the detail to add to the body itself… still not sure on what to add there.

looking good.

about your head, Considering where the hole is for your head, are you going to make a long neck that will bring the head forward or straight up?

It was going to be stooping forward, but I may have to move the neck hole for that… I’ve been thing about putting the head on a flexible neck to make it look more natural. Ah well, I’ll see how it goes!

<-- P.S. I put a new avatar up (I drew a bit of my inspiration from your’s soulty). I also wanted to brand my images with something a little better than just a text message.
