Baghdad falls

anyone watching the news? I’m watching BBC news 24 online…

Click on the Live Now button…

wow… this is like the fall of the berlin wall…

Thanks for the tip Lava - i am going to tune in right now, I hate being at work sometimes you dont ever get to know what’s going on in the world out side when you are trapped in an office

this is pretty crazy

whats going on, im at school, i have not idea whats going on in the outside world. fill me in

check out msnbc.com, www.bbc.com, www.english.aljazeera.net (haha… they have nothing to criticize now…)

that was crazy earlier on man - its good to see the people stand up for themselves!

:m:

wow, now i see it, they are going crazy.

oh my GOD!!

this is SO ****KING STUPID :bad:

This is nice =) Seeing all the people, elderly, young, middle-aged, women, etc. laughing and rejoicing both in Iraq and in the US kinda makes all the struggle worth it.

Cheers!
Kirupa :smirk:

BAGHDAD FALLS - its people rise!!!

yeah, what’s bugging me about it is that editorials for some middle eastern newspapers are completely dismissing the fact that the iraqui’s are rejoicing, and focusing on the fact that US troops can move about freely, and saying “it’s a shame… what’s to stop the US from invading a country that it finds a little annoying?” But the shame felt by many arabs is understandable, that they couldn’t do anything about it.

oh well, at least al jazeera is running the story that Iraqui’s are cheering in the streets. You guys should at least take a look at their english site… I found out that the US fired on a russian convoy that was trying to leave the country… I didn’t see that or read that on the news here…

Wow, this thread is starting to make a strong case for moving to the ordered forum. Anyways, let me give you a quick opinion on news sources.

Fox - Ultra freaking conservative, anyone who only watches this doesn’t know enough about the war. Still, one should know what the conservatives are up to…

MSNBC - Pro American, presents both sides of the issues, as long as they’re pro american issues.

BBC - Very balanced… tries to be objective, and presents praise and criticism for all aspects of a news story - very good reporting.

Newsweek - It’s not news, but analysis of the news. It’s liberal, but it has very good reporting. Fahreed Zacaria is the best writer ever!

Al Jazeera - Somewhat Anti American. Not as much as some would like to believe though. It presents stories that usually get filtered through american media. However, it’s hard to judge it’s credibility after it treated many of the obvious iraqui information minister’s lies as news…

… yeah… someone move this.

You must not watch CNN a lot. CNN was all over that Russian Convoy story… It was an accident. Coalition forces (unsure if it was British or American) fired upon a Kurdish Convoy as well. They had mistaken them for Iraqi troops.

I am also sick of people saying “how could they miss or make a mistake? The us is supposed to be the strongest smartest military in the world… blah blah blah blah…” nothing but **** flowing out of their mouths… Yes they are smart and strong, but they are still run by people and people make mistakes. Its tough out there. Its kill or be killed. You don’t realy have time to make distinctions between good and bad. If you see someone and they don’t look like your allies, then you fire on them… Its split-second life and death decisions. People make mistakes. Get over and get a better grip on reality.

moved mainly because of my rant…

it was kind of cool to watch them tear down the statues…

haha, I never watch TV news… it’s too dumbed down, and it’s mostly speculative. I usually just check the BBC and MSNBC websites mostly. Every once in a while I check le monde, fox, and al jazeera… and after all of this I wait for newsweek to come out with an analysis… I like my facts put into perspective.

As for mistakes Yes, they do happen. The fact that marines shot a bunch of women kids last week was an accident. However accidents sometimes happen on purpose. Lets take, for example, the Chinese Embassy bombing of 1999. In 1999 NATO troops (which is composed mainly of american troops) accidentally bombed the chinese embassy in Belgrade. Why? Because the Embassy was transmitting yugoslav military signals. However, what was fed into the american media was that it was an accident, while it’s been confirmed by several NATO generals that it was deliverate for those reasons.

Now let’s put things into perspective. The US has recently accused Russia of selling arms to Iraq, before and during the war. Also, there are reports that Russia was in talks with Saddam Hussain to provide him a safe way to flee the country, and to provide him sanctuary, so I think it’s entirely possible that the US had a reason to send a message to russia. After all, it’s done things like this before.

But hey, it might have been an accident, but I doubt it… if the US is pissed off at france and germany, it’s INCREDIBLY pissed at the russians.

oh, and that guy who put that american flag on saddam’s head… what a stupid moron! I seriously hope he gets punished for that…

Just that one seen of them dragging the statue head down the street while the young boy beat on it’s head with his shoe is almost enough to make me think this was all worth it…

Freedom is soemthing we almost all take for granted - I guess this is just a punch in the gut to make you remember how good we have it.

I try to not watch TV (ever) by my roommate was watching the news and I couldn’t help but hear it…

yeah i heard the news and to me it is really depressing but it is really wierd dont you think so? cuz like in less than 12 hours everything stopped and the US forces came into bagadad so easily their is something wierd behind all this. i might be wrong but the future will reveal everything. but the big question beside “what to do next?” is “where is sadam?”

yeah ur right after all sadam was not a good leader. he did some really bad things. ofcourse his people will do that. even if i am at iraqs side but i have put my self in their shoes and tried to feel and think the same way as they did i found that there is something in their heart that was burning them slowley everyday.

Well… there is very few news agencies…

One will show iraquis rejoicing but forget the casualties of war or the people who oppose it.

One will only show casualties and the dead… and not show the one rejoicing it.

Its called Prapoganda

So we must all make up our minds by getting information from diffrent sources and make your minds up…

I am still thinking war was’nt the best idea… but its here and its done… lets just see what comes of this…
