Concept for artist/musician

Client wanted a matrix/NIN type look no flash yet but just the conept of the overall look:

ummm… it looks pretty good. The splash is tight… but the fullscreen popup pops up like 500px to the left.

i think that you need to work on the nav… it doesn’t flow with the site concept at all IMO. needs to be more refined.

I’m so confused as to what is goin on w/ the layout… i see gas caps… bulb thingies, chains… none of it makes sense to me  keep tweakin it though and you may have a winner.

I like the splash, but the actual site is lacking. Actually I dont know what NIN is and how that works with the matrix look. But I would like to see no boundaries on the site. Just some implied boundaries witht he grid and content. I think it would be pretty slick that way. The nav stands out like a sore thumb…In a bad way. Try to mute it back some.

Actually went to NIN.com http://www.nin.com/index2.html is that the style you want?

WTH kinda style is that… ugly and uglier? YIKES

man that nine inch nails site sucks…

i agree with everyone - the splash got me primed for a really cool site - but then when i actually went to it the lack of continuity and quality was dissapointin :frowning:

try and follow the lead of your splash, the splash is gooood - currently the site and the splash have almost nothing in common…

thanks for all the comments… i’ll clean it up a bit and maybe even have a different look - more like the splash page. So i’ll do 2 concepts. simp you said it opens 500px to the left ? hm, it goes full for me, well almost full.

I agree with everyone about the splash. Heh, I guess you shouldn’t have mentioned NIN or The Matrix as it seems to have thrown everybody off!
The difference between the splash page and the site itself is that the site is graphically encapsulated–its elements have borders that contain the graphics. As DDD said, I would go for a borderless design direction. The problem is that the client wants some kind of “edgy,” “industrial” textured look, and the way to go is to texture what you have already instead of adopting the (IMO) trite suggestions of “industrial” (i.e., steam and metal, etc.). Use typography and texture to achieve this, as you already did with the splash. If they still want more, you can try making some smaller elements “skinned” with that look, like a music player or title block. But in general, subtlety is professionalism and vice-versa. If the client clamors for that over-the-top nonsense, just say “professional,” or if they don’t buy that, how about “dignity.” Eh, maybe those just aren’t big values in the music world

Oh, one more thing: does it really have to be full-screen? That seems so presumptuous to me :frowning: I hate it when browser windows just take over my desktop. As far as I can tell, it doesn’t have any reason to be full-screen. There could be an option for that, but don’t make it the default

P.s.: I thought the old, non-flash NIN site was more graphically interesting. I, for one, applaud the design’s sparsity and jagged texture. An argument for another thread!

Quality splash

Yea, it works in everything except for Safari,

Yea, it works in everything except for Safari,

maybe i’ll get rid of the fullscreen popup then… I don’t have a mac to test on.

great work man! love the color scheme and the splash rocks!:)
love this site, i don’t have anything bad to say about it:)

here is some redesigns:

wow nice stuff man - please use the bg grafs in different pages some nice imagery there  – perhaps a bit of playing around in the Nav - with diferent options on floating texzt in space / or boxing it in a marble frame etc…??

layout is better, but the nav still needs a little work, now it just got to bland  but it’s better than b4

i like the frame and the way you blurr the girls in the background to give it texture and perspective.

the navigation is borrrrrring . i think the layout and the font could def. change

how about this menu ?

client said she likes the gothic font (her name) but I don’t think it goes with this design.

man these are definitely an improvement - the last one is looking quite good, id give the nav a bit of a buffer between the top of the browser tho, it feels too claustrophobic to me…

also that large picture may wast a lot of space - i reckon the other one of her may work better… the one in http://www.pixelinsomnia.com/concept/main2.htm , but maybe desaturate it heaps…just my opinion anyway

i want to see it with the content in there, thats what really shows the strength of a design, how the content is displayed…

NOW you’re talking, man. This is the way to go. I agree about the nav being a bit tight, if I were you I’d talk to the client about somehow getting rid of like HALF of those links. As a basic design principle, there are too many options there, I’m sure some of them could be folded together (like video diary AND “digital” diary? come on).
However, I disagree with MatthewJumps about the image. I think you should definately keep the one you have now, of the close up of the face.
And yes, I’ll be interested to see how the interaction works…
