i know you love this one david. basic question. is the brain deterministic?
im not david…but…yes…i believe…somehow, the brain is indeed “deterministic”
I think that’s impossible to tell in absolutes right now. There is no doubt some amount of determinism in both our brain and genes, but likewise I beleive that the mind can come up with a basis of action for an entirely new premise, which an absolute determinitistic brain shouldn’t be able to accomplish.
although I might be misinterpreting determinism.
Deterministic would seem to follow a cascading logic order. A “single” track mind. The acceptance of outside ideas, would seem to initiate another track to go down logically. However the initial stream of conciousness in my opinion is fired up outside of the brain and body. Hence the soul. The soul uses the body much like we view a person using a forklift. A very complicated idea; but one I feel was initiated by the philosopher for lack of better things to think of. Hehe.
Now I’m Freeee…Freeee… Willin’…
Of course, I am a Christian, and this is my personal belief.
I don’t think the mind follows a single track. The brain is a very complex processor of information. We know from past experiences whether something is good or bad, but that doesn’t make it deterministic… so my answer is no.
