http://channels.aimtoday.com/ns/homerealestate/package.jsp?name=fte/fatvirus/fatvirus Yeah, its called ****ing McDonalds. Amercians are pathetic, rationalizing why we are fat…we eat to much.
Not doing enough physical work is another half of the problem
[ot]Is the report post button new?[/ot]
Mcdonalds, that is where that fat virus comes from…
Maccas, Kfc, Burger King, Hungry Jacks, the whole joint. If I can remeber, we’re right behind you guys been the world fatest countries. Lucky i go to Fitness First.
i can believe that, but sounds like just another way for middle school girls to get out of eating…
people need to exercise…sheesh.
(and the report post button is not new krilnon)
yup, that and watching what you eat is the only way to stay in shape.
Off my own topic but w/e
The reason that America could never legalize marijuana, I just realized, is because we have trouble doing anything in moderation. Some people always eat at McDonalds, some people are workaholics, sexaholics, alcoholics, coffe-aholics. If marijuana were legalized, then everyone would do it alot, there would practically be a huge cloud of smoke above America. Not to mention we’re a superpower and if we gave in to marijuana, you can bet that alot of other countries would too.
Edit: This is Javi, Zak left himself signed in and forgot, and I’m too lazy now to make it my post.
I don’t think it’s McDonalds fault (entirely). I think one of the big catalysts for obesity in the US is Technology. TVs, computers, and all this other stuff that requires little or no physical activity. Look at this chart that shows obesity levels in states from 1991 to 2001, a major growth period for computer technology becoming a dominant part of society in America.
edit: had to post a link, the chart messed up.

now I know TV has been around since the fifties, but never has there been an engrossment like the one we’ve seen in the last 15-20 years. Computers have become an addiction, taking over people’s lives while they sit in front of a monitor 90% of the time they’re not sleeping. It starts a the root with the kids who sit and watch tv all day and play on the computer, rather than play ball outside in the yard or something. There are millions of desk jobs in the US that require noting but sitting in front of a computer for 8 or 9 hours a day. And look at the schools, cutting away gym classes and PE so that they can afford bigger and better computers. I agree that computers and TV do great things for society, but like Javi said, we become overobsessed with them.
Another thing that recently bugged me was the idea of schools taking away every food that was fattening and serving nothing but cheap low fat health junk. The food we eat in school is bad, but it’s extremely healthy to sit on your butt for 6-7 hours a day, buring minimal callories and energy in the process? just plain confusing.
another key factor is that the US is built on the automobile. americans never really walk anywhere.
in addition, now more than ever more families have both parents working, or are single parent families. this means that not as much attention is payed to the health and well-being of children. not to mention the growing need for fast food because of time constraints caused by work.
I got an idea, what if it were mandatory to take like 1 year of cooking in highschool. I mean, they have health so that we learn to take care of ourselves and we have english to speak properly, so why not how to eat right/prepare meals that provide nutrition and are healthy? That way, we would have to rely less on fast food meals and we could cook up our own more healthy foods at home. Thats probably part of the problem, alot of people don’t know how to cook good food so they turn to fast food.
trouble is we are taught proper nutrition since like 1st or second grade, but no one listens…
home economics is supposed to take care of the cooking part, but a lot of schools don’t make you cook.
