How much do you charge?

I wondered, how much do you guys (professionals) charge for a website? I don’t need the exact amounts of course… Let’s say you’re able to build semi-pro or professional looking websites. You know how to program in JavaScrip, ActionScript, ASP, PHP and stuff like that. HTML and Photoshop / PaintShopPro are obviously the basics, so I assume those aren’t a problem at all. Appart from this, your designs are looking great.

To make this task easier, I’ll give you 3 kinds of websites where you can stick a price on:

  1. “I need a super duper Flash website to present our latest snowboards. It needs to be cool, flashy, fast, smooth and above all, I want the visitors to go ‘woooow!’. A contact form, a news page and a dynamic picture page is also needed.”

  2. “I want a simple webpage. Nothing too flashy, max. 5 pages + a page where I can put pictures later on. Design has to be sober and clean.” (Product Example: flowers)

  3. “I need an ads website, where users can put their ads on and upload pictures that match the stuff they’re selling. Stuff like ‘TOP 10 HITS’, a contact form, a FAQ page, an Admin Panel to delete or modify user information is also needed. We expect 120.000 visitors a day, so I want a huge database system.”

Hope this is not too difficult.

  1. The first site I would charge by the hour… Something around $50 per hour of work… Because I’d make enough hours to determine the final cost of it… People like charging by the hour it seems… They get their money’s worth (they think at least  )…

  2. Small based company it seems… $100… That’s about it.

  3. This I would charge them for each page I created… Something like $50… But then I’d charge them for the entire databse system… Depending on how advanced that would have to be… I’d charge around $500 - $2000 for that alone.

  1. $5000-10,000 will cover it all, usually I work from 9am-11p,.
  2. $1000-$2000
  3. I don’t know.

it depends on the company you work for, if they are a big company, those amounts are ok I guess, but you can still raise them up a bit… but for a small company, and if you are in a need for money, cut them like a half off or sumthin…
