Hi guys!
My boss just asked me to start planning an in-house web agency. We are in the health insurance business although I hate saying that: health shouldn’t be treated as a business in my opinion. Let me describe the scenery:
At the moment there’s me (webdesigner) and one intern who does all the boring tasks (hehehehe) like cutting and treating all the images we use, scanning, build up html pages, basic flash, etc. Besides supervising his work I do most of the advanced flash stuff, (x)html and css. We are responsible for both internet and intranet. No developers here, only designers.
IT’s resources are compromised. They’ve been involved with things much bigger than our website, which has a handful of services for our client/partners and is treated as a commercial hook on the web. There’s no e-commerce, for now.
So we are back to the initial question. Our development needs are not really complicated. 80% of the times I ask them to develop an email form (asp). A former colleague developed a menu management system. There’s also a price simulator which has some database access. I think that as far as our website goes that’s pretty much it. Some basic javascript here and there as well. The price simulator is the most complicated thing.
In our intranet we demand a bit more from the developers. We use a CMS based on XML, XSL and ASP. We use quite a bit of javascript as well.
My question is: how qualified should this developer guy be? Is junior level ok? From my point of view the developer is the only pawn missing, right? Should we consider another type of professional?
Any help will be much appreciated!!! Thx a lot in advance! :sc:
