I just finished the layout and design for a friend’s business. He does interior / exterior design, painting, and rearranging ( anything to make your house look cool ).
I wanted to create a simple and easy to use site that incorporated a soft welcoming appeal to it. I think the colors fit together nicely and help bring out the subtle aspects of the design.
Id like to get any input and or feedback regarding the layout and design of the site.
The text is just there as a placeholder and is going to be changed once he actually gets around to writing something.
Yes… it does look good the main point of concern is right under the nav.
1 issue w/ the nav is how news highlights and leaves the angled part the way it is… doesn’t look good. I would have that hole part light up on hover.
All the shapes and the dropshadows underneath the nav get extremely messy looking there is just way to much going on. You don’t need to take out the angles but you do need to take out the dropshadows.
Other than that it looks good, the nav is pretty decent… nice, simple, and safe… doesn’t really compliment the site like I think it could… but it works. Text usage is nice as well, but maybe try changing the body copy to #333333 instead of black, it’s a common color that gives a softer feel to sites, and since you’re using greys anyway… it may compliment it better.
Thank you for all the positive comments and feedback.
simplistik: What browser are you using? Ive tried to site in both Mozilla and IE and that drop shadow that you highlighted does not appear. I have it set as the background image for the cell and doesnt appear more than once on that spot. It shouldnt be repeating the image for that cell, weird.
Only happens on Safari on a MAC… it works fine in IE, and FF on MAC… it’s only safari… seeing yours though… it looks muuuuch better but I still think the news should highlight the whole thing
As in have it stay white when thats the topic that is being viewed?
I actually had the button stay highlighted white when that specific page was being viewed but then decided to change it back to only turn white when mouseover. Still not sure which I like better.
this is completely unrelated to design, but why 'Caustic" designs? Caustic has some bad, burning, chemical hazard-y connotations, not exactly in keeping with the nice soft, welcoming aesthetic you/your client are going for…I know its probably completely out of your hands, but I suppose I’m just curious why this name was chosen.
I think it looks really good though, me likeee.=]
I hadnt even thought to check the definition of that. I think he just picked it cause it sounds cool. Ill be sure to tell him what it actually mean, thanks for the info.
I just went thru your portfolio, all the sites are good looking but there’s one thing i’d like to comment upon…its the similarity between all the designs, i mean all r in center with shadowed border, menu bar is somewhat similar too…as a client i’d like to see some left aligned, some variations in design you kno…
Jasnider: Very good point, I didnt put much thought into it as far as showing my clients variations regarding centered webpages and the useage of the navigation bar.
I did however make a left alligned page for Polos Electronics, he decided to go with the centered webpage over the left alligned. Ill probably use that design for another site down the line.
