Manually Installing Windows Visual Style ?!?

How do you install a windows visual style manually? I tried the simple double clicking the visual style, but it doesn’t work. What should I do that doesn’t involve installing anything extra?

Thanks.

I thought the only way was by using another program such as StyleXP etc. … I’d like to know a way without using another app… :thumb:

windows blinds also works. There may be another way, but using a program is probably the easiest.

You might try sticking the files in this directory.

C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes

Run Multipatcher, then just put the files in ‘C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes’ like SlowRoasted said…

Works great. Just ignore the windows warning and restart your system after running it and it should be fine! But I always make a backup on themeuld.dll (called something like that). I think it’s in system32.

EDIT: you can download multipatcher here

Actually after running the multipatcher the double click should work fine from anywhere too. I keep all of my themes in “My Documents\Themes”.

are you attempting to install onto windows xp? If so, check out the FAQ in the first post of the monthly desktops thread:

Thanks. The thing is, I’m trying to install the theme on a school computer (no administrative access). Basically I can’t install anything, and can’t change any registry things. But the themes that I found are actual Windows Style files, but IT DOESN’T DO ANYTHING! I need help…

if you can’t install anything, then how do you expect to install the windows style? :h:

and windows styles don’t work on their own, windows doesn’t allow it. you need to use either the uxtheme.dll patch or styleXP.

well there is a reason why you cant do anything. i hate it when annoying little kids who try and install stuff on computers and change settings.
