I might be getting a digital camcorder maybe for my birthday a week on wednesday (cant wait). I was wondering about investing in some movie editing software i already have adobe premiere but i was wanting something that could do some really cool effects.
A while back somone was talking about a program that did the the matrix mouth effect and the x-men first film effect. I was wondering what it was called i tried searching but with on luck much to my disapointment.
Seeing as you guys know quite abit about evertything i was wondering if their was any software you could recomend.
Ps. the Camcorder will be used for lil movies like star wars rips (fake lightsabers), matrix rips, explosions, skate videos and music videos.
hoho i’d guess your talking about warez software if you want the proggies that composed x-men and matrix - and I don’t wanna go into that.
However, there are some nice though not-that-cheap software such as Adobe After Affects, Pinnacle Studios and that proggie that comes bundled with Macs that I heard was good for cuting scenes and adding lil’ effects.
For the price you won’t do much better than Premiere, it has great features, but can be rather complex to use. If you combine that with After Effects and Photoshop, you can produce some really nice results.
pinnacle and premiere are rather for video editing (ie scenes, making sound, exporting to a certain file format, few filters) as Adobe AfterEffects (which is really REALLY neat) is almost only for special FX, but it’s also really REALLY hard to learn: check some of this guys works; amazing: http://www.ayatoweb.com/ae_tips_e.html
if you have a mac, Final Cut Pro is AWESOME, or so i’ve heard… can’t scrounge up enough money for a mac OR Final Cut…
they also have a chopped down version of it for 300 (or 400 maybe) instead of the 1000 dollar version, if ur a student tho, u could probably get them cheaper
there I found a few more FX proggies: BorisFX (this one makes plugins for After Effects too), Boris RED, Continium Complete, Combustion, Graffiti, Shake, Zaxwerks and Invigorator - probably some more around… but these are the major ones
I prefer Nandub over Virtualdub for muxing audio, Nandub allows the use of VBR mp3 for the audio layer. If you are looking for a codec to use, I like Divx quite a bit. It seems to work pretty well for me. Although it can have problems with fast vertical or horizontal pans, if you are not carefull with your encoding settings. Although those can usually be corrected with an avisynth script.
