New Warrior (for 3D game model)

I’ve re-designed my warrior from a previous thread. I did a few concept sketches and hopefully over the next couple of weeks I’ll turn this into a 3D game model. I’ve gone through 2 attempts at other characters already, but I think I’m on a winner with this one. The concept looks a little cartoony, but when modelled it should have a more “realistic” feel to it.

I’ve got high hopes for it… after I complete the low poly version I’ll up the poly count and detail the model into a high poly version and animate it for my portfolio.

quick question for max and 3d users: Does anyone know if it is possible to use Shag Fur with any renderer plugins in Max. I’m using max 4 so I don’t have access to GI renders as part of the standard package. I’ve got Brazil v1.0, but I don’t think it supports Shag Fur (it doesn’t support other max plugin shaders, so I think it’s unlikely it’ll support fur). I want to render the animation with an external renderer because max’s default scanline really blows!

thats gonna be sooo good! sorry i cant help witht eh problem though

Can’t wait to see the finished render. =)

dan thinks of the upcoming render

:jawdrop: :faint: :fall: :die:

you can try renderman from pixar studios I heard it does although I have sent emails to them on this topic and never got a return. Guess they were busy with finding nemo…but yes renderman does I was just told as writing this

I was under the impression renderman was a Maya-specific plugin? I may be able to get my hands on mental ray eventually but from my quick use of it I’ve never been able to get the GI to render correctly (must be something I’ve missed). Not sure if mental ray handles fur either?

oh yeah dang it, it is for maya…I was trippin sorry man…but it does do that

As far as I know, Shag Fur renders fine in the standard scanline renderer in max.

I haven’t heard otherwise. :-\

How about mental ray? Hmm , let me check.

Mental ray is a little more intimate with max than brazil, but it’s lacking on the documentation side of things. I’ve read through the manual and it’s pretty heavy going, and not much useful information unless you want to manually program the parameters and write shaders.

Done most of the basic modelling work for it. It still needs alot of work, and hands and feet, but the concept is there.
