Poor movie sales blamed on hand-held text-message devices

This is just (amusingly) rediculous. Apparently the hollywood execs are blaming the drop off in movie sales to people getting the word of mouth out about a movie faster by means of instant messaging “and so scuppering carefully crafted marketing campaigns designed to lure audiences out to a big movie on its opening weekend.”

:sigh:

So people realize a movie sucks and dont get duped into forking over the cash to go see crap. The old trick of fooling people into thinking a movie will be good is no longer as effective as it used to be! OH NO! Now you’ll just have to make good movies!

rofl! how ridiculous! haha! gg! :thumb:

I blame it on kids not eating their vegetables

I blame it on some whitty thing!

that’s funny:beam:

Hey, they’re dissing T3!! I won’t let that happen

They will blame any and everything they can to try and cover up the fact that hollywood is in the tank right now. There are very few “great” movies being made in the last few years and they have to look somewhere to find blame.

Personally - I pretty much like any movie that watch. As long as I am entertained than all is good. There are very few flicks out there that I have left the theatre and said “terrible, nobody should ever see that again”

Alright then Ilyas Masa, ban them!

haha. Sorry, had to say that.

Yeah, alot of movies are dropping out that would other wise fly. Maybe more and more people are careful with there money and don’t spend it on crap.

T3 was good though…

I blame Gigli…

I blame Saddam…

Why? People are bored with the “freedom” deal, we need a new reason continue fighting over there.

Gigli bombed 'cause the bombing in Iraq … that’s it!!

Personally I’d rather have a friend tell me a movie is rubbish that waste a fiver going to find out for myself.

 It’s similar to the record industry complaining that the CD format allows copyright to be infringed and costing the companies $millions - they were the ones that demanded that we go out and equip our homes with CD players in the first place! :stunned:

A good point.

Whatever happens the industries will find something to complain about - the Internet, falling sales, copying of CD’s… :sure:

Back in the day of VHS that was a big worry for the movie industry too. Afterall, who would go to the theater when you could see the movie at home? Well surprise surprise, it didnt stop people from going to the movies and in fact provided a new source of revenue.

There has also been talk previously about how online swapping of pirated movies have contriuted too… and that was especially a concern around the time of LOTR. That didnt prevent those movies from making over $600+ million (the 2 combined).

:sigh:

I re-blame that.

I have NO problems paying $9 for a CD … but when you’re going to the store looking for MUSIC, and you have to pay $14-17 for 30 minutes of music, it’s retarded to even think about buying CDs anymore.

Last 2 CDs I bought were Godsmack and Metallica … both for under 10 because of specials running on them. I have never been so happy in my life than when I got those 2 CDs for such a price. Metallica’s St. Anger has over 73 minutes of music, and it came with a DVD of rehearsals …

If more artists/bands did THAT - I’d have no problems buying CDs. Just the same, I’d have no problems going to movies, even if they sucked, just to hang out with friends and have something to talk about. I won’t pay $10 (about 20 if I had a date) to see a crappy 1 and 1/2 hour movie though for such a price.

Half the reason to go to movies is for hanging out with friends and having a good time. I rarely, if ever, see anyone sitting alone in a movie theater just because they want to see a movie.

It just doesn’t work that way

the movies last night were so packed and it was for bad boys two which has been out for a while, so i dont think there was to much of a drop off. and to blame it on text messaging is so lame, its gonna happen wth telephones too. oh well if it werent for phones our sales would be up. its just stupid…

lol Hollywood… What, the producers were only able to buy 5 boats this year?
