I keep running into this gap where sci-fi computer assistants are supposed to feel like a steady character, but most real AI tools feel more like a tab you visit and forget. They’re useful, just not very lived-in.
Maybe that’s fine, but i’m curious whether anyone else actually wants the “same assistant with memory” thing, or if that’s just a movie fantasy we all think sounds nicer than it is.
I kinda want the “same assistant” thing, but only if it feels like a pet you can ignore for a week and it doesn’t get weird about it. right now it’s all either amnesia or “we stored everything forever, ” and neither feels like that lived-in sci‑fi middle ground.
I want the “same assistant” vibe too, but only if the memory is basically a little notebook I can open, edit, and wipe whenever. Otherwise it’s like a coworker who’s been quietly jotting down stuff about you and then confidently bringing it up three weeks later… slightly wrong.
The tab-and-forget thing feels kind of disposable, but at least it’s not pretending it’s your buddy. It’s more like a calculator: you don’t feel guilty closing it.
