Social Darwinism

Hi.
Has anyone read The Lucifer Principle by Howard Bloom? The first two thirds, I loved - not convinced by its scientific content, but I found the ideas very entertaining and worth reading (a bit plithily referenced and selective but loads of fun).
Lent it to my friend who thinks it promotes eugenics/social darwinism…
I’m interested in what others who have read it think.

ok - so thats what eugenics is

Eugenics is a social philosophy which advocates the improvement of human hereditary traits through various forms of intervention. The purported goals have variously been to create healthier, more intelligent people, save society’s resources, and lessen human suffering. Proposed means of achieving these goals most commonly include prenatal testing and screening, genetic counseling, birth control, selective breeding, In vitro fertilisation, and genetic engineering. Critics argue that eugenics is a pseudoscience. Historically, eugenics has been used as a justification for coercive state-sponsored discrimination and severe human rights violations, such as forced sterilization (e.g., of those perceived to have mental or social defects or illnesses) and even genocide.

i dont like the sound of eugenics :expressionless:

sorry i havent read the book :worried: .

Yar it indeed sounds horrible.

The book explained the biology behind destructive tendencies, and the evolution of pecking orders, social structures, (reminded me of lord of the flies) and explained atrocities, such as war and genocide in biological terms. But I didn’t get the impression that it “pushed” either.

just wanted to know what others thought.

sounds interesting…is it worth a read?

Absolutely. It’s disturbing, and like I said earlier, the scientific content is questionable in parts, and especially towards the end, it pushes a zionist agenda.

That said, it is a page turner and very entertaining and is one of my favourite books. A very fun read, I give it four stars.

cool ill have to find it at the library.
