/// Detailed 3D tires in max

Ok, I finally got the alloys sorted out! :stuck_out_tongue: wee =)

here it is:

Any thoughts?

Looking really good there. Only thing Iā€™d work on is the alloy material. You might want to try a anisotropic shader and up the specular highlights a bit (between 100-150 or or so, maybe higher). The reflections need a bit of work tooā€¦ perhaps you might want to try HDR maps to get something really convincing.

Iā€™d tone down the specular on the tire material and up the ambient a bit in the environmentā€¦ or if you are using a renderer, up the GI a bit. That way you could still see the detail on the tire, but it wouldnā€™t look so shiny.

Nice work though!

I would make the tires thicker, do they come in dubz size?

Good Job!

that is so cool

i wish i could use 3D programs

Thats really good. I kinda gave up on MAX :frowning: i like it but Maya is just better, i am using PLE but i am getting a second (or third) hand copy of 4.0!

that looks really good and keep posting updates.

really sweet, nice work, wanna see more from you

that looks really good!!!

Thatā€™s neat! Mabe make it look like metal some moreā€¦ itā€™s like plastic right now but itā€™s very nice!

Yah the alloy material was just a quickie. Itā€™s basically just a shiny blinn material with a reflected sky

Ironikart seems to know his stuff, so maybe heā€™ll tell us how to make proper materials?

Wow!! They are great :beam: Could the reflection not carry on? Not be cut off?

  • Soul :s:

there will be a reflection yes  Maybe I should blend in an environment reflection tooā€¦?

is this any better?

Thatā€™s really amazing. Have I ever told you that I hated you, mate? :stuck_out_tongue: I envy you your Photoshop skills, thatā€™s an excellent picture.

Now can you draw me an Impreza to go with those tyres?

Nice! Iā€™m doing that tutorial to :stuck_out_tongue: Stopped at the multi-material thingy, i donā€™t know what to do (even with multi-sub materials)ā€¦
And after a while my max version totally broke down my computer, started taking so much memory that i could hardly move the mouse cursor. Well, I found out how to after a while, norton caused some kind of problem with ā€œwinlogon.exeā€ wich max uses to so there was a conflictā€¦

e that looks a whole lot better! keep it up!

thanks every1

Kit: Once I figure out car modelling, Iā€™ll make you the Impreza, with a custom paint job as well

Now All I need is Ironikart to come and tell me what materials to use on the tires, they still donā€™t look quite right to me :-\

oh well, itā€™s the modelling part thatā€™s hard, materials can always be changed =)

Wow, nice work dude !

there is one thing

the gap between the shadow and wheel theres is a white line

if you just blur it or something:)

::: oh just great , i wrote a great big response and my ie decided to crash. grrr ok let me see if i remember what i wrote. hmmm

nice work mate.

The tires look more like slicks at the moment, you might need to turn up your bump map or displacement map depending on which one you used to get the tire texture.

You need to throw in some more lights so we can see the tire texture better, maybe a slight direction light or a low intensity spot light, that should make the scene more natural. The tire texture looks a little too bright as well, im guessing but it seems like you are using a phong material. maybe play around with the specular settings in the phong material , such as specular colour (change to a grey if black already) and its intensity to get more of a rubber look. (Maybe try a blinn material). You could even add a realistic background, like a garage or something to add some realism to the image.

its looking great for the time being , keep it up!!
