My gawd! 30G for that???
Hmm… It is a pretty diverse site.
They could’ve hired 2Advanced to make a Flash site 2000x better than that, and probably for half the money.
[ot]Butters: I’ve always wondered about salaries in the UK. Your pounds are worth about 2.5x our Aussie dollars, so does that mean you’d earn 2.5x less, in raw figures? Say someone earns AU$50/hr in Australia, would they earn 50 pounds in the UK, or something like 20 pounds? Just in general…
Your currency is worth so much… and if the pay is actually much higher, then… whoa… I need to find a freelance job from the UK :P[/ot]
Oh, and Pixeladdict:
Put this in the HEAD section of your page:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!-- Idea by: Nic Wolfe (Nic@TimelapseProductions.com) -->
<!-- Web URL: http://fineline.xs.mw -->
<!-- This script and many more are available free online at -->
<!-- The JavaScript Source!! http://javascript.internet.com -->
<!-- Begin
function popUp(URL) {
day = new Date();
id = day.getTime();
eval("page" + id + " = window.open(URL, '" + id + "', 'toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,width=800,height=600,left = 112,top = 84');");
}
// End -->
</script>
and to activate the popup:
<A HREF="javascript:popUp('page.htm')">Open the Popup Window</A>
I got this code from here, btw:

Okay thanks ya3.
Got it working myself. Found a site that did it and looked at the source.
the ALMOST finished site is now here: http://www.pixeladdict.dk/IDHair/blah.htm
You guys are all missing the point. It’s not about how compicated the actionscript is or how much time you spent in 3dMax modeling out viruses, it’s about it’s success. If the site doesn’t do what it should do, no amount of code or 3d or after effect is going to save it. Companies such as this law firm pay 30grand for a website that makes people hire them. A good site will make back the investment quickly.
www.eprmg.net <-- that site was $750,000.
On my freelance work I’ve charged upwards of 500 - 1000 per page with a $60/hr rate for programming. You have to think that just because you enjoy doing this doesn’t mean that you aren’t doing some intense work, if you are good and your work has a high quality, there is really a chance to make good money. You just have to make sure that you are working with businesses, getting your name out whenever possible.

sk8krog very well put
Guys PLEASE don’t say you will do high end flash sites for cheap PLEASE!!! Don’t cheapen the market. Make people pay for our long hours and unique craft and skills.
We all need to value ourselves and our work so we get paid fairly and appropriatly.
ps. I think Kirupa hates me because no matter how many posts I have or threads I post my post count never goes up
Think about it, how many hours have you sat at your computer working on getting better at this? You have to think that they are paying for your expertise, they’re paying you to make something work, they’re going to expect alot out of you anyway, might as well get a good paycheck out of it. If they need it they will pay.
A well established presense on the web is something that can make a company…

yep
www.eprmg.net <– that site was $750,000.
Was that a typo? If that really costs three-quarters of a million USD… wow
yes sir… the back end is amazing I’ll give them that… still a rip off
_Michael
Who designed/coded it?
Probably because you never post in any of the forums deemed “useful.”
Anyone willing to pay $750,000 for that eyesore deserves to be ripped off as much as they did. Sheeeeeeeesus.
Probably because you never post in any of the forums deemed “useful.”
ouch…man OUCH!
As a designer I like the site! Love the red!! But would consider bringing out the black section that contains the logo…I think the understatedness of it is good but perhaps a little more glowing edges so you can make it out a bit more?!
The back end is nuts. The agents of the company don’t need to either own the software or be on the property, they can access ALL information from their house, plus once all info is entered about a potential client, it generates the most appropriate loan type (them being loan officers) for the client. It really is an amazing back-end, but again not 750,000 amazing.
I know one of the managers of the company, I will find out again who did it and post it here.
Take Care.

Ummm, mind if I ask a related question at this point?
I’ve just been asked to make some minor alterations to an existing Flash site. It comprises a fairly simple sliding menu with a blank movieclip into which approximately 30 or so movieclips can be loaded depending on the menu item selected.
The original site was created in Flash 4 but the developer has vanished along with the source FLA’s. The new site designers aren’t Flash-savvy but the clients are pressing them to a) change the number of menu selections and b) change some of the movie-clips that are loaded - at this stage I don’t know if it’s one mc or all 30 of them. However, they’re happy for all the existing colours/fonts/images to remain the same. All they want is a complete set of clean, documented, FLA’s that they can then alter themselves at some point in the future.
Any ideas what kind of price might be reasonable for:
- Providing 30 or so fully documented FLA’s based on the original site that incorporate the (relatively simple) changes they require.
- Providing a completely new design of site in MX or Flash 8
I’m quite keen to get into this type of work but I don’t want to either price myself out of the market or look a complete chump by offering to do it for peanuts. Is there a common daily/hourly rate for Flash work? I figure that I can complete option 1 in a couple of weeks.
What I would do is figure out how long you think it will take you to make the modifications, and charge a reasonable price (somewhere around $40/hr or at least a $250/day rate)… at 200-250 dollars a day you are looking at about 40k a year which is the price you’d get working at any decent job. And I’d make sure that you have a limit… if it only takes 3 hours, charge an eight hour day… or at least half a day (ex: minimum payment of 4 hours)
_Michael
That makes sense. But you’d think with that amount of money being invested into the site, they could at least make a decent front-end design.
