My Site - Portfolio

Hi guys, like a lot of people I have ‘planned’ to do a site for ages and never got around to it, but I finally gave myself a kick up the bum and did it.

www.garypurdue.co.uk

Let me know what you think.

Pdue

I like it! I just don’t like the outer glow on the type, I would drop it down some. I would also put your navigation in the grey bar. Thats just me. I really like the images for each section, nice shots are they stock or did you take them?

Cheers

News and Contact are mine, I’ll get all of the images to be mine eventually, when the weather warms up!!
You say outer glow but do you mean drop shadow?

Does it look professional enough?

easy to use, colours are fine, looks ok…3 tips though

first tip:
Replace the contact page with a form that will allow me to send you an email. For instance here is the contact page from my site

http://www.rbell.net/contact.html

You see I give my address but allow them the option of just sending me the mail direct from there. Also gives people with not a lot of technical know how, people who don’t know what information to pass you, a nice guide…kinda like an icebreaker. Also if you have the chance change your email to info@garypurdue.co.uk rather than gary@garypurdue.co.uk, it’s your site obviously you’ll get it…just think info is a bit more professional

second tip:
In the work page, clicking on the last image ‘Evolution Interactive’ doesn’t work. If you rollover it you have an extra .co.uk at the end of the URL. Also think you need to add links to your recent work boxes on your main and other pages.

third tip:
maybe replace the home & daffodils pcs (ok but not great, again on my site - http://www.rbell.net/ - the pics have nothing to do with the site or me but hopefully they’re good enough to stick in peoples minds).

but site looks nice, not bad :thumb:

I think I’d agree with all of those points, thanks, I have noticed the extra .co.uk but am at work so can’t do it now.

I would reduce the drop shadow.

the site is ok. you have some good work so that will make up for it. it’s not bad though… don’t get me wrong.

Hi guys, I’ve now updated my site, some new images for the banners, added a form on contact, taken the drop shadow down to 20%, created links out of the recent work, updated the news section and am just waiting for the ‘info@garypurdue.co.uk’ to be made available.

Thanks for all of the comments guys.

sorry, nothing special in it. :*(

hey constructive criticism, gotta love it :thumb: 8-]

Thanks Rab, guess theres no pleasing some people! :diss:

the pages all end pretty abruptly. i would throw a copyright footer in there.

I think its a good improvement. Good colors IMO.

Funny you should say that.

I didn’t want to say anything :smirk:
Thanks for the comment too.

bwh2 : I see what you mean about the pages ending abrubtly, might have to have a look into that.

Anyone think I should have a flash version too?

no, I don’t think you need a flash version…unless you had some great ideas on animation

trouble with the web today is most people dive right in and create a flash site for no reason, most of the sites could have been straight forward XHTML/CSS sites, still being of good design and content but people just want more and more flash and it’s a worry it’s popularity will kill it

anyway if you’ve got some good ideas for animation/interactivity then I’d think about it

if it’s only going to be the site there now with a couple of transitions thrown in then no

the design is good, but i also think that you abuse from the glow effect.
there is something i wanna tell you
im preparing a html version of my portfolio, and it looks pretty similar from waht im making right now… this means i have to change it? :stunned:

I haven’t used any glow affect anywhere, guess it kind of looks like the logo and buttons have glow on them, but they don’t.
Course you don’t have to change yours, though if it’s exactly the same I’d be amazed!! :beam:

umm… i kind of read the blue header on top and the image underneath as two headers - like the google header when you go to a page from an image search.

And i would put a little more work into how your work is presented - smaller previews, and better presentation of the text (on the right, perhaps?)

Also, i feel it’s a little bottomless, if you understand - all this white.
